Shakira Has the Official Song. IShowSpeed Has the One People Are Actually Playing.

FIFA paid Shakira and Burna Boy to make the official anthem. Then IShowSpeed made his own for free — and got 3 million views in 14 hours. The internet has an opinion about which one actually slaps.

Let's just say it plainly. "Dai Dai" is the official World Cup song. Shakira made it with Burna Boy. FIFA announced it. Done.

And then IShowSpeed sat down, made "World Cup (Champions)" without asking anyone's permission, dropped it on June 1, and watched 3 million people click play before most of the world had finished their morning tea.

That is the situation we are in nine days before the tournament kicks off.

"Dai Dai" is a genuinely good song. Shakira knows what she is doing — this is her fourth time making music for a World Cup and she filmed the video at the Maracanã in Rio with actual football stars appearing in it. Messi. Mbappé. Haaland. Kane. It is polished, professional, multilingual. The chorus works. Burna Boy brings an Afrobeats energy that the previous Shakira anthems did not have.

If you watch it on YouTube, the comments are mostly positive. If you watch it on a second screen while also watching IShowSpeed's video, you understand why fans are arguing.

"Champions" does not have the budget. It does not have the FIFA seal of approval. What it has is IShowSpeed in a Portugal jersey — obviously — shouting out all 48 countries in the tournament one after another, over a beat that sounds exactly like what 80,000 people in a stadium would spontaneously start chanting.

When Speed publicly asked FIFA to adopt it as the official anthem, their social media team replied four words: "We will be in touch."

Those four words sent the internet completely sideways.

Whether FIFA actually calls or that was just a clever reply designed to go viral — we will find out. But right now, in football fan group chats across Nepal and the rest of the world, "Champions" is the one playing.
