Netflix just added Assassination Classroom Season 2 to its June 2026 anime lineup, meaning the complete series is now available to stream in one place. If you have somehow avoided this show for the past decade — now is a good time to fix that.
The premise sounds ridiculous on paper. A powerful alien creature — yellow, tentacled, capable of moving at Mach 20 — announces that he will destroy the Earth in one year. Before he does, he wants to teach a class of struggling middle school students. The students are tasked with assassinating him before the year is up. He gets to keep teaching.
That's Assassination Classroom. And somehow, against every expectation, it is one of the most emotionally complete anime series ever made.
What the show does brilliantly is use the absurd setup to tell a genuinely moving story about education, potential and what it means to be a good teacher. Korosensei — the alien teacher — turns out to be the most dedicated educator his students have ever had. The comedy is sharp, the action sequences are inventive, and the emotional payoff in the final episodes is the kind that hits you harder than you were prepared for.
Season 2 takes everything Season 1 built and raises the stakes considerably. The comedy remains but the story gets darker and more complex as the year runs out and the students confront what they have actually been doing.
If you are introducing someone to anime and want something accessible but genuinely excellent — Assassination Classroom is one of the first recommendations any fan worth listening to will make. It is on Netflix now. Both seasons. No excuses.
