Re:ZERO Season 4 is currently the number one trending anime in the world this week. That should tell you everything you need to know about how long people have been waiting for this.
For those who have not watched Re:ZERO — it is an isekai anime about a young man named Natsuki Subaru who gets transported to a fantasy world and discovers he has the ability to "Return by Death." When he dies, he revives at a checkpoint. He cannot tell anyone about this ability. And the show uses that premise to put Subaru through some of the most genuinely painful experiences in anime history.
This is not a comfortable show. It is a show that builds characters you love and then makes you watch terrible things happen to them, again and again, until the emotional accumulation becomes almost unbearable. And people come back for more every season because when Re:ZERO is firing on all cylinders, there is nothing else in anime quite like it.
Season 4 has picked up directly from the end of Season 3. The stakes are higher. The cast is larger. The animation quality from White Fox has been praised in early reviews as among the best the show has ever looked.
The first few episodes are currently sitting at the top of the Anime Trending weekly charts — a reliable indicator of how much momentum this season is carrying going into summer.
Re:ZERO Season 4 is streaming on Crunchyroll with new episodes weekly. If you stopped watching after Season 1 or 2 — go back. Finish it. Then join the rest of us watching Season 4 and absolutely not handling it well.
